Introducing our new generation sun protection range - TechniSun

Regulations within the suncare and cosmetic industry are constantly evolving and changing as more research is undertaken around ingredients. The Scientific Advisory Group on Chemical Safety of Non-Food and Non-Medicinal Consumer Products (SAG-CS) provides the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) with scientific advice on substances used in consumer products and these standards are then adopted by sunscreen manufacturers.
Some years ago, the permitted percentages of oxybenzone and octinoxate (UV filters) were significantly reduced in all sunscreens and, as a result, Techniblock was re-formulated to completely remove these two ingredients. In July 2025, further regulations come into force which bans the use of Homosalate (another UV filter) in aerosols, although interestingly it is an accepted ingredient in a cream or lotion!
Regrettably, this decision means that Techniblock is no longer a UK compliant sunscreen and, therefore, cannot continue to be sold in the UK.
Techniblock in its original formula was developed by Rob Verseput, a South African pharmacist and entrepreneur, who was fed up with sticky sun creams that didn't protect adequately against the harsh South African sun. A keen golfer, Rob wanted a great sunscreen that was easy to apply, didn't need rubbing in so there was no transference onto his golf clubs and offered excellent protection against harmful UV and sunburn, and so Techniblock was introduced to the South African market via the golf pro shops. In the last 30 years, it has become one of the leading sun protection brands in South Africa.
However, Rob sold his pharmaceutical company nearly 10 years ago and since then, it has changed hands many times. Whilst it is still manufactured by the same lab in SA, the Techniblock brand has had many owners over the years and, despite our best endeavours, we have never managed to persuade them to manufacture the SPF 30 that we know our UK customers want so, with the new regulations looming, it was time for us to take action.
Rob is now a consultant with another pharmaceutical facility in South Africa, so we approached him and asked him to make us a new, fully compliant sunscreen which we have named TechniSun.
TechniSun uses the very latest sunscreen technologies, is free from all the UV filters that are no longer permitted, but still retains it's top class qualities in terms of protection. It has no oils, emulsifiers, parabens, preservatives or artificial colours so it is still very suitable for sensitive skin and should not irritate prickly heat sufferers. From a consumer's point of view, there is very little difference in texture or feel on the skin and it offers excellent protection against sunburn. We've had some great feedback from customers who have tried it, and they all loved the ultra-light and non-greasy formula as well as the lightly fragranced tropical smell.
It is our intention to gradually transition all our SPFs to our new brand in 2025. We own it and, from a business point of view, this is a significant step in the right direction to secure our company's future with the SPFs that the UK market demands.
TechniSun will be available as an SPF 30 and an SPF 50 in all three sizes - 75ml, 150ml and 300ml - and all of these new products will be a Wet & Dry formula.
We are absolutely delighted with TechniSun and we are confident that you will be too. We believe this new formula is the best yet and when it comes to protecting your skin, why settle for anything less!
